T-Mobile G1

  • What? Mobile Phone and Internet Device
  • Where? Exclusively at T-Mobile
  • When? October 22nd
  • How Much? $179.99 with 2 year contract
  • Why is it Cool? The T-mobile G1 is the first device to use a new operating system from Google called Android. Because Android is developed by Google, the G1 has all of Google's great services built in such as Gmail, Search, Google Talk, Google Calendar, Google Maps, and YouTube. It features a high resolution touch screen, full QWERTY keyboard, 3MP camera, GPS, WiFi, and 3G(High Speed Mobile Internet). With the included Amazon MP3 store application, you can wirelessly purchase music over WiFi. The G1's Google Maps application will support Street View so you can see the streets of the location you have searched. A built in compass will orient the map to your position. The Android Market Place application will be very similar to Apple's App Store where you can download addition 3rd party applications to enhance the device's functionality. The device will be available in Black, White, and Brown. The T-Mobile G1 and the BalckBerry Storm are trying to catch up to the iPhone but only time will tell if either device has what it takes. See the G1 in action here.

Note: Although the G1 goes on sale October 22nd, you will not be able to purchase one at your local T-Mobile store unless you live within 5 miles of a T-Mobile 3G coverage area but you will be able to buy one online.
